It's Quiet. Too Quiet.

With Donald Trump out of office, it’s quiet. And that’s what scares me.

One of the few positive things Donald Trump accomplished in his calamitous four yeas as president was to force conservative Republicans out of the shadows; it was the last thing they wanted to do.

You see, unlike the disconcertingly-high number of our friends, family, and neighbors who seemingly couldn’t wait to shout their privilege, bigotry, and ignorance from the rooftops, Trump dragged reluctant conservative Republicans out of the shadows and forced them to pick a side. And, with countless opportunities over a four year (plus) period to demonstrate strong leadership, integrity, or just basic human decency, conservative Republicans overwhelmingly sided with him. In short, they chose Trump’s values over ours.

But, here’s the thing... what conservative Republicans want more than anything is to go back behind the scenes and continue enacting and strengthening the disenfranchising policies and laws Donald Trump supported. Yep, they want to do that when it’s quiet - like right now. And, I hate to say it but, because so many conservative Republicans are actively ignoring our demands for change and accountability, the quiet we’re experiencing now is merely an interim between injustices.

How long it will last, I don’t know. Nonetheless, with conservative Republican politicians back to turning a blind eye to anything related to social justice, it’s only a matter of time before this quiet is shattered and we have yet another name to say.

Like you, I pray that won’t happen. But, history shows us over and over that no matter how blatant and heinous the injustice, they’re continually ignored by Republicans in power. We know this to be true but, we have to stop just talking amongst ourselves. Change must be forced. And, since atrocities and protests won’t compel them, we have to vote conservative Republicans out of office.

For sure, conservative Republicans know what’s up. That’s why they’re working hard during this quiet time to strengthen a system that’s designed to benefit them and a privileged few. Right now, we should be working just as hard. So, make sure you’re registered to vote. And, make sure your friends and family are registered to vote as well because, since conservative Republicans won’t do it, when the time comes we’re going to vote them out. Together, we’ll put people in positions of leadership who will make the changes we’ve been demanding for decades. Voting them in is the only way.
